SUSFUR Local Training on Sustainable and Circular Furniture in Albania
As part of the SUSFUR project, KID Albania, in collaboration with ETMI, successfully organized a local training workshop on Sustainability and Circularity in the Furniture Industry at the Faculty of Forestry Sciences and the Experimental Didactic Center. The training brought together students and young professionals to explore innovative and sustainable approaches to furniture design and production, promoting the principles of the circular economy within the wood sector.
Throughout the workshop, participants were introduced to the foundations of the circular economy in the furniture industry, with a particular focus on sustainability practices, the identification of challenges and user needs, and the development of innovative project ideas through teamwork and collaboration. The activities created a dynamic learning environment that encouraged knowledge exchange and creative problem-solving.
Participants also explored sustainable furniture design approaches using recycled and reclaimed materials at the Design Laboratory near the Department of Wood Industry. By combining functionality, innovation, and circular design principles, they developed creative concepts and sketches for sustainable furniture products that can contribute to more resource-efficient practices in the furniture sector.
Another important component of the workshop focused on materials, technologies, and production processes applied in the circular economy. Participants gained practical insights into modern woodworking equipment and innovative manufacturing technologies, including CNC machinery, and learned about their role in supporting sustainable and efficient production. The workshop also involved graduating students from the Karl Gega Vocational School, providing them with valuable hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of circular economy principles and advanced technologies used in the wood industry.
The workshop highlighted the importance of education, collaboration, and practical learning in fostering innovation and supporting the transition towards a more sustainable and circular furniture sector.
